About us
The Rainforest Way has its origins in the 1994 NSW Far North Coast “Nature Based and Ecotourism Plan” and its current impetus is the result of unprecedented consultation and collaboration between all levels of government, tourism managers, natural resource managers and private operators within the cross border regions of northern NSW and south east Queensland.
To date three plans have been drafted in the areas of :
Product Plan;
Marketing Strategy and
Infrastructure, Product and Signage Strategy
During 2005 the Executive Committee applied for and was successful in securing funds under the Australian Tourism Development Program managed by AusIndustry. The purpose of the grant was to finally implement and market the project – see it through to completion.
The stakeholders involved in the Rainforest Way Implementation Group include:
Tourism Queensland and Tourism NSW
NSW Department of State and Regional Development
Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia (CERRA)
Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service
Northern Rivers Tourism and the Centre for Regional Tourism Research
Local government representatives and Private enterprise
Northern Rivers Tourism is the managing organisation of the Rainforest Way project and is the recipient organisation for the Australian Tourism Development Program funds.
